| This section describes the
digitization of the Vindolanda material.
The tablet text and metadata has been entered into a database,
which is searchable and browsable on this site. As part of this
process, the texts of each tablet has been converted to XML, a digital
format that is both suitable for web-publication and--through use
of the EpiDoc DTD--compatible with other digital editions of ancient

High-quality digital images of the tablets were produced to accompany the texts. An introduction to the digital imaging of the Vindolanda tablets is also available.
